The number of multiple homeowners continues to rise in South Korea, but at a much slower rate.
This group has been under pressure to sell their properties following the government's tightened housing policy to curb soaring home prices.
Min Suk-hyen has the full story.
The total number of homeowners in South Korea has reached 14-point-7 million in 2020, up 2-point-5 percent on-year.
Of them, those who owned one home accounted for 84-point-2 percent, while 15-point-8 percent owned two or more homes across the country.
In other words, the number of multiple homeowners stood at 2-point-3 million in 2020, up 36-thousand from the previous year.
This was the slowest growth since 2014 when the number of multiple homeowners grew by only 28-thousand.
The proportion of multiple homeowners, at 15-point-8 percent, also, in fact, saw a slight fall from the previous year.
The figure was down point-one percentage point on-year...to mark its first fall in six years.
The latest data from Statistics Korea shows a drop in the on-year increase of people with two or more homes as well as a drop in their ratio to the total homeowners.
The agency said that the government's housing policies appeared to have pressured multiple homeowners in speculative regions, including the greater Seoul area.
The proportion of multiple homeowners in Seoul fell to 15-point-2 percent from 15-point-8 percent last year... while Sejong city also dipped to 19-point-8 percent from 20-point-4 percent.
Over the past few years, the government has been rolling out a series of measures to stabilize the real estate market, including tax hikes and loan regulations, to curb soaring home prices.
